Abdicar? Não é bem assim! Rainha Isabel II responde à decisão de Meghan Markle e príncipe Harry

O Palácio de Buckingham emitou um comunicado esta quarta-feira, 8, em resposta à decisão de Meghan Markle e do príncipe Harry de abdicar dos títulos reais bem como das obrigações à coroa. 

"Compreendemos o desejo de seguir uma diferente abordagem mas isto é um assunto complicado que levará o seu tempo", disse o palácio numa nota citada pela 'Reuters'. "As conversas com o duque e a duquesa de Sussex estão numa fase inicial". 

A resposta da rainha Isabel II chega cerca de duas horas depois de Meghan e Harry anunciarem que estão a começar uma transição em que pretendem abdicar dos títulos bem como dos recursos financeiros do palácio, tornando-se "financeiramente independentes" e a viver entre o Reino Unido e a América do Norte.

Se o anúncio de Meghan e Harry apanhou a todos de surpresa, a versão diferente do Palácio de Buckingham choca ainda mais. A família real britânica é conhecida por manter uma aparência de frente unida, apesar das divergências claras. De acordo com a 'BBC', o meio de comunicação mais próximo da família real, "nenhum outro membro foi consultado" por Meghan e Harry. "O Palácio está desapontado".

"After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.
